The Warming is the perfect book for our times. It wastes no time defending climate change science thus avoiding the need to pummel us with data. Rather the author simply acknowledges scientific consensus and moves forward on the assumption that little if any policy or technological shifts will occur in the intervening few years with the commitment or scale sufficient to avoid disaster/5.

The Warming is a languid, almost dreary book, which might reflect the pace of global warming, heating us to extinction by degrees. There's a switch about two thirds of the way through, and then it feels rushed, glossing over things, with just hints of what this third location (in Antarctica) is like, like the smell of melting permafrost/5.

The book was effective in explaining many of the issues related to climate warming. Today most of what is in the press is either political or more like asking us all to believe in a new religion. You need to believe, don't ask questions. The book was very informative/5().

The book, like the movie, is slangy with zippy retorts throughout. It's the story of a boy who enters a prep school with an inordinate amount of swagger.

Fairly early on in the book, he makes some social mistakes and ends up put in "coventry" by his housemate, primarily because of his own ability to hold a grudge/5.

The book is restricted to pre-modern civilizations which, for the most part, depended on subsistence farming, which fact was disastrous when populations that had already grown so much as to be unsustainable faced shifts in rainfall, overexploitation of natural resources, by: Varmints, written by Helen Ward and illustrated by Marc Craste, is a simple yet powerful picture book for older readers (Grades 4 and up). This story is told in three sections that include three diverse worlds, where each is indicated by a vellum page that reminded me a bit of the start of old film footage/5.

The book is a meticulously documented, white-knuckled tour through the cascading catastrophes that will soon engulf our warming planet.” —Farhad Manjoo,  The New York Times He avoids the ‘eerily banal language of climatology’ in favor of lush, rolling prose.” —Jennifer Szalai,  The New York TimesCited by: 2.

Three years after two boys (Ethan and Josh) were found drowned in the river, their parents and 4/5.
